Traditionally, the process of receiving a new, personalized dental crown required at least two appointments – one for the impressions, and one for the placement of the finished restoration. Thankfully, CEREC® technology has dramatically transformed this procedure for the better! At Advanced Dentistry of Alhambra, we can now offer every stage of the treatment process over the course of a single visit, including all-digital impressions, in-house milling, and final adjustments to ensure long-lasting improvements. Contact us today if you’d like to learn more about CEREC dental restorations in Alhambra, CA or schedule a visit.
The process starts with our dentists using a special camera that captures three-dimensional images of the tooth and adjacent teeth. Then, special software is used to create a custom design for the crown. With the click of a mouse, the software sends the design to the milling machine, which sculpts the tooth from a small block of very strong ceramic. Finally, we will bond the new restoration to the tooth. All of these steps are completed in one visit.
CEREC® has definitely revolutionized the process of rebuilding teeth. It was designed with the patient’s needs in mind and to make this procedure as comfortable as possible. Some of its overall benefits include the following:
CEREC® relies on state-of-the-art CAD-CAM technology to take patients through the process of designing, milling, and placing a brand-new dental crown. Here are the major steps you’ll experience:
Before any treatment begins, our dentists will help you determine whether CEREC® is right for you. This depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains, as well as the severity of any damage. After reviewing all available options, the actual procedure begins with the administration of local anesthetic and the preparation of the tooth. We will remove any areas of decay and weakened enamel.
In order to create your entirely custom dental restoration, we’ll start by capturing a fully digital, 3D image of the tooth in question. The computer and the CEREC® software will convert this digital image into a fully realized virtual model that our dentists can then use for the crown’s design. You don’t have to sit still with a mouthful of putty in a tray any longer!
Once the design of the new restoration is complete, it will be sent to our milling unit. This technology starts with a ceramic block that’s been corrected to match your smile’s natural shade. In just a few minutes, it will mill your ideal restoration to our exact specifications.
Once the restoration is complete, we’ll ensure that the overall fit is correct, as well as how it fits in with your bite. Once everyone feels confident about the final results, our doctors will polish it and permanently cement it into place. There’s no return trip needed, which saves you valuable money and time!
