First Visit In Our Office
We believe you deserve to know what exactly is happening in your mouth, what problems you may have in future even if you can't feel them now. Your first visit will include a very complete dental examination.
During your first appointment we will take digital x-rays, intraoral photos, Diagnodent laser caries diagnostic. Dr. Dara will review your x-rays and photos with you and give you a simple summary in a way that is easy to understand.
Together we will discuss priorities and options, with there benefits and risk and agree on a treatment plan. We will also discuss how to avoid dental problems in long term with proper oral hygiene and nutrition.
Our patients often tell us, “I’ve never had an exam this thorough before!”
During this visit Dr. Dara will do a detailed examination of:
• your head, neck, tongue and floor of the mouth to check for any indications of oral cancer, diabetes, or vitamin deficiencies.
• your jaw muscles and jaw joints, examine your bite and the jaw movement.
She will do examination of your mouth, including:
• evaluate the health of your gums, supporting bone and identify any cause of bad breath.
• check your teeth for tooth decay
• evaluate existing fillings and check the contacts between them
• your smile’s appearance and discuss cosmetic improvement of your smile.
If Dr Dara finds that you need any dental treatment she will explain in detail all the work that needs to be performed and you will be informed about the cost associated with that on a visit by visit basis. For patients with dental insurance - we will glad to file the insurance form for you and estimate what your patient share is.
In some situations we are able to do your prophylaxis at the same appointment. Which means we will clean and scale your teeth to remove all plaque and calculus (tartar build up), polish and apply tooth-strengthening gel.
Some patients will only require a routine cleaning while others who have periodontal problems may require longer visits to treat their gum disease rather than a simple cleaning. For patients with periodontal or gum disease we usually need to schedule second appointment.
We will talk about the importance of good oral hygiene at home and proper nutrition, review brushing and flossing techniques.
Also this appointment is a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about your dental health. Dentistry now offers a lot more to improve health, function and appearance of your teeth. Please don't hesitate to ask about anything you do not understand. All the members of the team are very knowledgeable and their primary goal is to serve you.
At the end of the visit we will be glad to give you a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste that are best for you.
